A Letter to Myakka Neighbors

Dear Neighbor,

I wanted to reach out to you personally.

First, I would like to apologize to those who planned to attend our recent community meeting that was postponed. As interest in the meeting expanded beyond local residents, it became clear we needed to take additional time to ensure the event remained focused on productive dialogue with our Myakka neighbors. We are working to reschedule that conversation and look forward to meeting with you soon.

Over the past several months, there has been a great deal of discussion about my family’s properties in Myakka. Many of you have questions about conservation, water quality, future development, and the long-term future of our community. Those are fair questions.

One issue that has generated significant discussion involves density and a rezoning application that has since been withdrawn. To be clear, the application for rezoning was never intended to create one-acre lots or introduce large-scale residential development along the river. The application involved adding 31 home sites across hundreds of acres.

Rather than relying on rumors, social media posts, or secondhand information, I believe residents deserve direct access to facts and information.
My commitment has always been simple: to be a responsible steward of the land and to leave it healthier for future generations.

In the weeks ahead, we will be sharing information about conservation efforts, environmental initiatives, restoration projects, and the work taking place throughout our properties. We will also create opportunities for residents to ask questions, review information, and visit the properties firsthand.

Thank you for taking the time to read this letter and for caring about the future of Myakka. I look forward to continuing the conversation.
Sincerely,

Steve Herrig
